Throat Cancer Removal

Precision Surgery with the BeamPath™ ENT

Surgery in the airway requires a tool with the highest degree of control and maneuverability. OmniGuide®’s BeamPath ENT product line offers a technological breakthrough that enables precise removal of throat cancer tumors.

What is a Throat Cancer?

Throat cancer forms in the tissue of the pharynx (the hollow tube inside the neck that extends from behind the nose to the top of the windpipe and esophagus) and the larynx (voice box). The majority of throat cancers are squamous cell carcinomas, meaning they arise from the outer layer of tissue lining the throat . Symptoms include a sore throat or cough that does not go away, a lump in the throat, pain while swallowing, and hoarseness.

 Surgical Removal of Throat Cancer

Treatment of laryngeal cancer may involve surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy or a combination of all three. Each patient’s treatment regimen depends on factors such as his/her age, general wellbeing, and tumor size and location. Surgical removal of the cancerous lesion plays an important role in the treatment of the majority of laryngeal cancer cases. The majority of surgical techniques necessitate invasive surgery, sometimes requiring the placement of tracheotomy tube and the removal of the entire voice-box. These invasive procedures translate into prolonged recovery and pain for you the patient. OmniGuide has changed the way surgeons operate by coupling the cutting precision and hemostatic effects of the CO2 laser with the flexible BeamPath ENT delivery system, thus enabling minimally invasive access to the diseased throat area.

Why OmniGuide BeamPath?

For the first time, surgeons are able to flexibly deliver CO2 laser energy to perform precision minimally invasive surgery in the throat. Surgeons use the BeamPath ENT system because it cuts as a precision scalpel and minimizes bleeding while ensuring preservation of surrounding healthy tissue. The flexibility of the BeamPath fiber allows surgeons to reach deep-seated tumors growing in anatomical regions they could not access previously with only a minimally invasive approach.

 The OmniGuide Commitment
