OmniGuide Inc. is currently in search of a Senior Manufacturing Engineering Leader specializing in Laser Medical Equipment (Co2 and Thulium Lasers) to join our expanding global Operations team in Billerica, MA.

Job Summary:

The Optical Field Service and Operations Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining advanced optical and fiber-optic systems at customer sites. This role involves a combination of hands-on technical work in the field and providing operational support. The ideal candidate will have expertise in optical networking, fiber optics, and related equipment, as well as excellent problem-solving skills and a strong customer service orientation.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Installation and Setup: Install, configure, and test fiber-optic networks and equipment, including optical transmission systems, wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) devices, amplifiers, and optical switches.
  • Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Perform routine maintenance, diagnostics, and repair of optical laser systems to ensure optimal performance. Identify issues, diagnose faults, and implement corrective actions quickly and efficiently.
  • Field Service: Travel to customer sites to install, inspect, repair, and upgrade optical networking equipment. Collaborate closely with customers to resolve issues on-site, ensuring minimal downtime.
  • System Upgrades: Conduct hardware and software upgrades for optical networking systems. Ensure compatibility and performance optimization when integrating new equipment into existing networks.
  • Documentation: Accurately record maintenance activities, issue reports, and service logs. Maintain detailed records of equipment configurations, network layouts, and repair histories.
  • Customer Support: Provide exceptional customer service by addressing client concerns, explaining system functionalities, and ensuring clients are satisfied with the service provided. Offer post-
    installation support and training as needed.
  • Compliance and Safety: Follow industry standards and safety protocols during installations and repairs. Ensure all work complies with company guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Technical Expertise: Stay up-to-date on the latest developments in optical networking technologies and best practices. Participate in continuous training and skill enhancement programs.

 

Qualifications:

  • Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Relevant certifications in fiber optics (e.g., CFOT, FOA) are a plus.
  • Experience: 2-5 years of experience in optical network installations, troubleshooting, and field service operations. Experience with WDM systems, optical amplifiers, and fiber-optic testing tools preferred.

 

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in fiber-optic testing tools such as Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs), power meters, and light sources.
  • Strong understanding of optical laser systems preferred
  • Familiarity with network management systems (NMS) and remote monitoring tools.

 

Soft Skills:

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving capabilities.

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment, including standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Domestic and International travel required

 

Working Conditions:

  • This role operates in a manufacturing plant environment. Exposure to moderate noise levels, machinery, and occasional chemical fumes.
